Only downside for me is recompiling lirc modules every time the kernel version is changed - but that's hardly VDR's fault. --- einfach genial --- I sometimes use streamdev from the media center to the other pcs in the house (which have no DVB devices). I plan to switch to DVB-S2 in the next couple of years. --- 1 VDR as Media PC (at my parents) - Full HD (without Full HD content) 1 VDR on my PC with a wall-through connection to my TV-Set/Audio-receiver running on the Second-Head of my Desktop-system (thanks to Dual-Core technologie). Better media playing functionalities and support for modern software based UI would be great. The UI looks old and ugly but it is highly functional. I'm using pci passthrough to get access to the dvb devices(2) from the dom0. domU is headless. I'm using freevo and xinelibout on a htpc to watch tv and stuff vdr is nice and stable. However it's a very limited peace of software. I can't wait to see it being forked ! Klaus just have simple needs. vdr architecture needs a lot of reworking to handle more complex needs/setups. Sometimes I use also my DBOX2 as frontend. --- A marvellous program ! --- Cool stuff *gg*. Headless seems to be tricky sometimes. --- Couldn't live without it! :-) --- VDR is a great peace of software with a great support but unfortunately for most part os users the documentation usually is in german and not in english (even if more of the developers usually reply in english when asked them). For me, VDR need to simplicify 2 plugins (conversion and burning of recordings) to be really competitive and be more reclaimed in binary distributions. --- Marvelous machine.. Err.. The usage of bouquets really sucks and the menu gets a mess when a bunch of plugins are loaded. Because of the good help of the community and my daily advancing knowledge i hope to get some patches out someday to get things discussed. Der Server steht in einem eigenen Raum, das Signal wird über einen HF-Modulator ins Hausnetz eingespeist, außerdem werden noch 4 Workstations und ein Laptop über Streaming bedient. Ich setze hier immer noch die alte SUSE 7.3 mit Kernel 2.6.17. Zum alten GCC-2.95 habe ich noch den GCC-3.3 selbst übersetzt und installiert. Way too many distributions and flavours, plugin development appears very detached from the main source. On this machine I use VMware Server 2.0RC2 to run some virtual maschines on it: Windows Small Business Server, WinXP Client, Endian Firewall --- Tobi, You do a great job! Without your repository I simply could not run my VDR, I would personally say thank you to your great work. To the direction of VDR development: I would like to see VDR with HD support which includes DVB S2 and HVR 4000 lite support. I know that this belongs also in the DVB drivers area. But I think VDR is the killer app for the DVB drivers. This multiproto mess should be finished ASAP. Bring your influence to move a dvb driver into the kernel which supports this! And since the HD devel just makes my old FF card obsolete: I would like to have more Media Center Features of VDR, nicer surface etc. Also I would like to have tighter Xine support.
